2015年4月16日、マーリンズのイチローはメッツ戦の7回に代打で登場し、このシーズン初の三塁打を放った。この日はベンチスタートで、出番は4－5と逆転された直後の7回一死。3ボール2ストライクから9球目の直球を打ち、フェンス前で弾んだ打球で三塁へ到達し同点のチャンスを作りました。その後、打順は1番に戻り、ディー・ゴードンの打球でイチローはホームを狙い、一度はアウトと判定されたが、5分44秒の審議の結果、判定が覆りセーフとなり、マーリンズは5－5の同点に追いた。ホームを狙ったものの、挟まれる形となるが、イチローの神回避で難を逃れたこのシーンについて、海外からの賞賛の声があがりました。
